Where a free tool stops being enough
Everything in this catalog produces an estimate, a draft or a record, and the distinction matters more than it sounds. An estimate is arithmetic over inputs you supplied, so it is exactly as good as those inputs and moves when they move. A draft is a document you still have to check against the official form, since none of these pages files anything with anyone. A record is a dated note of what you checked and where you read it, which is the output that holds its value longest, because the rule behind it will change and the date is what tells you when to look again.
What none of them can do is make a determination. Whether a worker is an employee, whether a treaty rate applies to a specific payment, whether a country treats you as resident this year: those are judgments made against facts and evidence, and a form with six fields cannot see the facts. The tools that touch those questions are built as worksheets for that reason. They organize what a reviewer needs and stop short of the answer, which is less satisfying on first use and considerably better than a confident number nobody can stand behind.
The constants inside them decay, which is why every tool page prints the date its explanation was last checked. Rates get reset mid-year: the IRS moved the 2026 business mileage rate from 72.5 cents to 76 cents on 1 July, and a calculator still running the January figure looks exactly like one running the current one. So treat any number here as correct on the date shown, and check it against the authority before it lands on a filing, in a contract, or in front of a client. Most of these tools compute entirely in your browser; the two that call a service, the VAT number lookup and the webhook simulator, send what you enter through a Gruv route to reach it, and each says so on its own page.
